Vehicle Safety News

August 4, 2008
Shreveport Times, "Child killed in Bienville Mitsubishi SUV rollover"
A 12-year-old died Sunday when a sport utility vehicle rolled several times in Bienville Parish. It happened about 3:30 p.m. on Interstate 20 near mile marker 61, north of Gibsland, according to state police. The 2002 Mitsubishi Montero was headed east when it drove into the median. The driver got the vehicle back onto the highway but over corrected, Troop G spokesman Doug Pierrelee said. The child, who was sitting in the SUV's cargo area, was ejected.

Emergency officials pronounced the child dead at the scene. Authorities did not identify the child. Another three occupants, who were wearing seat belts, were taken by ambulance to Minden Medical Center for minor injuries. Troopers identified them as Jacquelyn Duke, 50, of West Monroe, Debroah Rogers, 54, address unknown, and Dorothy Pegross, 69, address unknown.

Troopers diverted all eastbound I-20 traffic for about three hours on a 12-mile stretch from near Ada Taylor to Arcadia.
